Those cards above are called zener cards. They were designed by parapsychologists at the Rhine Research Center to test for psychic powers. They tested for clairvoyance and telepathy. Researchers did find that there were more hits than misses in most people. However, there was a lot of controversy over how the experiment was run, such as observer bias.
